Start by gathering the necessary tools: gloves, a clean rag, a measuring tape or chain wear gauge, and a flashlight if working in low light. Never begin inspection until the machine is fully de-energized and secured with a lockout procedure.

Verify the tightness of all pins, clips, and mounting hardware. Make sure they are secure and properly torqued. A single unsecured link can trigger catastrophic breakdown.
